…that points readers toward a book of mine by saying “Nerds can learn more…” deserves a shout out:  the folks at Akertoys were fascinated by the amazing handrail detail at the Salk and figured out how it was made.  And they got it right–it’s extruded stainless steel, though it looks like two standard shapes welded together.

In between figuring out great architectural details, Akertoys apparently makes some pretty cool, beautifully designed toys.  And baritone ukeleles…

I’m off to Montreal for a month in the Canadian Centre for Architecture‘s archives.  Among other things they apparently have the fullest set of Burnham and Root drawings of the Monadnock, and I’m hoping to make some sense of its very hybrid structure.
